“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”
As a part of my practice, I offer a psychotherapy for children (age 7 and above) and adolescents. While therapeutic relationship is as important in therapy with children, as it is in psychotherapy with adults, one aspect that enters work with children that is not always part of psychotherapy with adults, is play. Play is an essential component of child development, and as children communicate through play, it is often an entrance into a child’s emotional world.
In my work with children, I use play therapy, as well as sand-tray therapy to get to know the child and help them communicate their emotions and needs, as well as make sense of their world. I view work with parents as an important part of psychotherapy with children and adolescents, so frequently
I will include parents in parts of the session, and/or provide suggestions for parenting techniques that could be implemented at home.
